About SPBT

The Portuguese Society of Biotechnology is an organisation that aims to promote biotechnology as an essential tool for innovation and sustainable development.

SPBT brings together researchers, academics and biotechnology professionals to discuss advances in the field, promote collaboration and share knowledge. Through conferences, workshops and publications, the society seeks to raise the profile of biotechnology and its positive impact on society.

Our members represent the most diverse areas of biotechnology, from fundamental research to industrial application, creating a collaborative network of excellence that covers the entire country.

We have brought together biotechnology talent and knowledge for more than four decades. Since 1981 we have promoted scientific collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation, helping to position Portugal as a European reference in biotechnology and providing specialised support to hundreds of research projects.
